There are various benefits in terms of built-in diagnostics, and myriads of programming options as well as strong drive control when there is a combination of the PowerFlex 70 drive with phase II control. One of the eminent advantages of the drive is that it offers a customizable portfolio. It not only helps users to remain connected with their activities and operations but also increases their productivity. The upgraded and updated controller of the drive makes it effective and affordable thereby making it an embodiment of an efficient control solution. As a result, all the factors above contribute to the drive’s outstanding performance. Moreover, without or with feedback from the encoder, Vector Control with FORCE Technology (1) offers excellent speed and torque management. Sensor-free High torque is produced through vector control across broad speed ranges, and it can adjust to the unique features of each motor.

Flexible Packaging and Mounting

The drive is covered in an insulator, or non-conducting material, that helps shield it from environmentally stressful elements brought on by highly polluted atmospheres, such as moisture, fungi, dust, corrosion, abrasion, and others. When a product is exposed to a corrosive environment, the coating lengthens the expected lifetime of the product. It ensures the assembly's operational integrity while assisting in maintaining long-term surface insulation resistance

Side-by-side and direct mounting is possible for these drives. The installation cost of the drive is kept as minimum as possible. Moreover, Pull-apart control terminal bars provide quick disconnecting and straightforward wiring.

Drive Features

There is a vigilant and active current limit and bus voltage limitations in the drive. As result, maximum deceleration and acceleration are achieved in the drive without any tripping. There is a high-speed analog input mechanism in the drive. In this way, the responsiveness of the drive to speed or torque gets improved significantly. Due to programming freedom in the drive, it can link settings at large. The option of flying start gives a continuous connection to the rotating and varying loads. Due to user sets, up to three full sets of data related to parameters can be allowed. Slip compensation provides 0.5% open-loop speed management across a large speed range, removing the requirement for speed response devices in certain applications. The first product in the DriveGuard line of safety solutions, Safe Torque Off, works to stop drives from providing rotational energy to motors by combining a safeguard circuit with the drive's switching power signals.

Incredible Network Communications Capabilities

Countless benefits are offered by PowerFlex 70 drives, which are interoperable with a variety of communication adapters. With adapter routing, one can connect a PC to one drive and communicate with all other Allen-Bradley drives on the same network without going via a network scanner. Users have total control over every configuration of the network. When AutoBaud is available, connections are established more quickly. (Unconnected Messaging) enables direct disc interaction without passing via the network scanner for other network devices (like PanelView). When changing a drive, ADR ("Automatic Device Replacement"), which configures a scanner to automatically identify any new drive and download the necessary parameter settings, saves time and effort. Adapters may be configured to communicate user-customizable logic control and speed reference values, as well as to carry out fault-based actions including ramp-to-stop, hold the last state, and coast-to-stop. Additionally, dependent on whether the network had a significant issue (such as a broken cable) or was idle, other measures may be taken (PLC set to "Program"). Depending on the state of a master drive or (consumer), peer control enables one or more slave drives or (consumers) to operate (producer). Additionally, it may considerably lessen network traffic.

Environmental Consideration

The PowerFlex 70 drive can operate at an altitude of up to 1000 m without any derating. Without derating, the maximum temperature of the surrounding atmosphere ranges from 0 to 50 degrees Celsius. However, the temperature ranges from 0 to 40 and 0 to 65 degrees Celsius for the chassis (heatsink) and control, respectively. The temperature range for storage is -40 to 70 degrees Celsius. No volatile or corrosive gases, fumes, or dust should be present around the PowerFlex 70 AC drive. The drive must be stored in a corrosive-free environment if it isn’t fitted for a long time. The drive's permissible relative humidity ranges from 5 to 95 percent.

Programming Parameters

Three different kinds of parameters are used by the drive:

  • ENUM: Selections for ENUM parameters can be made from two or more elements. Each item has a text message shown on the LCD HIM. For each item, the LED HIM displays a number.
  • Bit: Individual bits inside bit parameters are connected to attributes or circumstances. The feature is disabled, or the condition is false if the bit is set to 0. The feature is activated, or the condition is true if the bit is set to 1.
  • Numeric: These variables only have one numerical value (for example 0.1 volts).

Depending on your unique requirements, you may build drive packages using the PowerFlex 70 packaged drives program. Users have the option to construct drive packages outside the scope of the Standard Packaged Drives offering using the Engineered Drives Program. Both the Enhanced Control and Standard versions of the PowerFlex 70 are supported by this application.

Installation Considerations

Installations of the PowerFlex 70 frequently include adding input fuses or a circuit breaker. Electrical codes and/or national and local industrial safety regulations may place further limits on these systems.

There are a variety of cable types allowed for drive installations. If it is kept away from crucial circuits, the unshielded cable is adequate for many systems. For every 10 meters of length, allow 0.3 meters of space. Wherever possible, long parallel runs should be avoided.

Power Wiring

The PowerFlex 70 includes multiple safety measures to facilitate installation. Ground fault protection enables dependable operation both during startup and operation. Overload-protected electronic motors have a longer motor lifespan.  Alternatively, if the drive is linked to a resistive grounded system, an ungrounded system, a B-phase grounded system, or an impedance grounded system, these devices must be unplugged. If the driving power source is a regenerative unit or DC supplied by an active converter, these devices should also be unplugged. Thanks to 6 kV transient protection, the 380–480V system voltages are more durable.
