Part number 20D-STEG-B1 is an encoder board that was manufactured by Allen-Bradley. This model is of high resolution, and it is to be use with Allen-Bradley’s PowerFlex 700 series of adjustable frequency drives. The board allows for speed regulation of 0.001 percent across 120:1 speed range. The speed control is rated at a 120:1 operating range. When used with drive frames 1-6, the bandwidth is seven hundred and forty-four (744) radians per second and for drives with frames 9 and up, the bandwidth is three hundred (300) radians per second. The drive torque regulation is 2500 radians per second. The unit’s voltage supply is 11.5 volts DC (direct current) at 130 milliamperes. Its high-resolution feedback is of type Sine/Cosine 1V P-P Offset 2.5.

Compared to the other available feedback options to use, the 20D-STEG-B1 provides the best optimization of speed, accuracy, and position regulation. In order to be able to install the encoder board, there is the need of an additional unit: an expansion cassette that will allow the installation in the drive unit. When this board is mounted, the drive maintains its CE certification, opposite to the resolver board, where the CE certification is lost. The maximum connection cable length is ninety (90) meters (295 feet). The encoder's maximum frequency speed is 12.5 microseconds. With its high-resolution option, the board can obtain the information via the RS-485 interface. This is performed shortly after power-up and includes address, command number, mode, number of turns, number of Sine/Cos cycles and CheckSum.
