Allen-Bradley produced 1734-APB has been a particular kind of PROFIBUS adapter device for input-output points within Bulletin 1734 POINT I/O collection. It can be found on both the backplane's POINT I/O (PointBus) and the PROFIBUS connectivity, which is a plus. Having the adapter in the device in this place allows it to connect with both the input-output point elements and also the PROFIBUS networking concurrently. It works as a central hub on the PointBus and can communicate with up to 63 POINT I/O units at the same time. As a device mostly on PROFIBUS networking, it communicates with the PROFIBUS masters in order to exchange I/O information. This adapter unit offers a standard 24 V DC input voltage limit and a rated power between 10 and 28.8 V DC, making it more suitable for a wide variety of applications. Inrush current of 6 amps is the largest during 10 milliseconds at a current of 1 amp from the PointBus (output) at 5 volts DC 5 percent being the highest for the same time period (4.75 to 5.25).
In the event of an overvoltage on the input, the 1734-APB provides reverse polarity protection. As an added bonus, in the event that the input is stopped or fades out, the voltage output maintains within specifications for milliseconds at 10 V with the maximum load. This adapter for a 1734 based system is installed on the left-hand side of the computer system. It has the capability of supporting a maximum total expansion of 63 modules. It does have a maximum field capacity of 10 amps and current consumption of 75 milliamps, which allows it to power up to 14 I/O units at the same time without overheating.
