The 1746-NT4 is a Thermocouple Input Module manufactured by Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation as part of the SLC 500 system. This module provides all the SLC 500 processors with digitally converted thermocouple or millivolt analog data, received and stored in the image table. It uses an external power supply while it receives power of 5 volts DC and 24 volts DC from the SLC 500 power supply via the backplane. Also, it features two cold-junction compensation (CJC) sensors rather than offset voltages to preserve the thermocouple input signal accuracy. The module requires block transfers for remote input and output configuration. It interfaces to J, K, T, E, R, S, B, and N thermocouple types and accepts direct analog input signals of ±50 and ±100 millivolts. The 1746-NT4 Thermocouple/mV Input Module auto-calibrates when powered-up and whenever the channel is enabled. It comes with 5 green LED status indicators, which shows the module status and the other four for the four channels. Allen Bradley 1746-NT4 module features 4 backplane isolated input channels, with a backplane current consumption of 40 milliamps at 24 volts DC and 60 milliamps at 5 volts DC. The module comes with a backplane power consumption of 0.5 watts at 2 volts DC and 0.3 watts at 5 volts DC as well as 16-bit converter resolution and step response of 12 – 300 milliseconds at 95 percent. The 1746-NT4 module has a bandwidth of 2.62 - 65.5 hertz, an update period 26 milliseconds to 1.2 second, and it uses a sigma-delta modulation for the A/D conversion.
