The multi-talented Allen-Bradley 1747-L531 processor is installed in SLC 500 modular type hardware. The processor has capacity to handle 60 input / output modules of various types such as analog, digital, and intelligent. It is also equipped with 4096 control channels of input and output points. The processor is typically used with an SLC 500 modular processor on a compatible chassis and power supply. There are program memory size options of 8 kilobytes, 16 kilobytes and 32 kilobytes. The same memory can be allotted to data storage as well. The processor's Random Access Memory is powered with a backup battery with a life of 2 years. The 1747-L531 supports a variety of communication options.
The unit has internal memory of 8K with possibility of expanding it using Flash EPROM to up to 64K. A memory module 1747-M13 will be required along with the adapter socket 1747-M15 to achieve this. The vetted and approved program algorithm is permanently stored in the memory so that accidental deletion or unauthorized edits to the program are avoided. This is a common thread that allows for integrated RSLinx communication between different Allen-Bradley products communicating with the processor. The hold-up time feature of the processor gives the ability of performing under low power supply conditions for a short duration. This way an abrupt end of controller is avoided which can be dangerous.
