The Allen-Bradley 1756-L73 is designed to perform as an interface module that interacts with the input/output signals. This controller can accommodate as many as 128,000 analog signals and 4,000 analog I/O signals at the same time. Using this controller, users can execute local I/O configuration. Configuration must be done near the installed I/O modules. Also, the configuration must be executed where the chassis is located, as well as at the location where the distributed I/O topology and the controller itself are installed. This controller supports I/O topology. Additionally, this controller should be installed near the expansion I/O modules. 

The Allen-Bradley 1756-L73 comes with a dedicated remote. Using the extra communication bus, the processor chip in the remote communicates the commands to the connected I/O modules. When it comes to communication, this controller supports a wide array of protocols starting with the Synchlink, DeviceNet, Ethernet / IP, and the ControlNet. It also comes with support for many legacy protocols starting with the Remote I/O (RIO) protocol, 3rd party protocols, and Data Highway Plus (DH+) protocol. This controller can also be programmed to communicate with protocol converters and communication gateways. 

The Allen-Bradley 1756-L73 can be used with other communication modules from the ControlLogix line of products. It can be paired as encompass partner with other Allen-Bradley controllers. It features integrated motion. Also, this controller supports the SERCOS interface. This controller features many advanced features such as analog motion sensing and motion control via Ethernet / IP. When it comes to programming, this controller supports structured text, relay ladder, sequential function chart, and function block diagram.
