Part number 1771-ACNR15 by Allen-Bradley is a ControlNet I/O adapter module. This module is used with the Allen Bradley 1771 PLC-5 system. The module requires a backplane current of 1 ampere at 5 volts DC. It operates at a communication rate of 5 Megabytes per second (Mbps). Its power dissipation is specified at 5 watts and its thermal dissipation rating is 17.06 BTU/hr. The adapter module allows direct control of the 1771 remote I/O using the ControlNet network. Additional features and benefits include high-speed data transfer, network address switch assemblies, Network Access Port (NAP) for access to local communication network, diagnostic messages, ControlNet connectors, and a redundant media port. The storage and operation temperatures for this adapter module ranges from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) and -40 to 85 degrees Celsius (-40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit), respectively.

The 1771-ACNR15 adapter module is connected to the I/O chassis of the PLC-5 system through its left-most slot. Incorrect insertion is prevented by using keying bands. The keying specifications for the upper connector of the adapter modules are between 54 and 56, while for the lower connector, the keying specifications are between 16 and 18. The module is wired using Quad shield RG-6 coaxial cables terminated with standard BNC connectors. The adapter module requires two switch assemblies (10’s switch and the 1’s switch) in order to configure to the network address (specified from 01 to 99). Additionally, the adapter module is equipped with a number of indicators for diagnostic and troubleshooting purposes. The adapter module is also equipped with a communication reset pushbutton for manual reset and communication resumption after troubleshooting.
