The Allen-Bradley designed and produced 1771-NIVR is a high-resolution intelligent I/O module, which has come from the 1771-N series. It has four voltage inputs and current inputs rated at 5 volts and 20 milliamperes, respectively, and four RTD (resistance temperature detector) inputs set at 1-650 ohms. The 1771-NIVR is intended for use with the PLC-3, PLC5-250, and PLC-5 programmable controllers. A single 1771-NIVR module's maximum I/O backplane current consumption and maximum power dissipation at 5 volts are 1.2 amperes and 6 watts, respectively. The four voltage/current inputs have a operating range of 5.5 volts and 22 mA with a resistor. This device has an input resolution of 168 V/bit (0.7A/bit), as well as an input impedance larger than 10 mega-ohms. The inputs include overvoltage protection and are rated at 140 volts AC rms.
The 1771-NIVR's four RTD inputs are suitable for 1 – 650 ohm resistance. The input range is selectable depending on what type of RTD is utilized. With the 100 ohms rated Platinum RTD (EU standard), the range is -200 - +870 °C (-328 - +1598 °F). With the 100ohm Platinum RTD (US standard), the range has been -200 - +630 °C (-328 - +1166 °F). With the 10 ohms rated copper RTD, the range seems to be -200 - +260 °C. The highest input resolution value is 10 milliohm/bit (at 16 bits unipolar). The precision of the 100ohm Platinum and 120ohm nickel RTDs is 0.03 °C (0.0 6°F), while the resolution of the 10ohm copper RTD is 0.3°C (0.5°F). The display's resolution is set to 0.01 ohm / 0.1 °C by default. The RTD excitation current is typically set to 1 mA. Offset and gain drift are measured in milliohm/°C and 50 ppm/°C, respectively. 1/649 ohm is the calibration value. The temperature range accepted by the 1771-NIVR is 0 to 60 °C.
