The 1784-PCM5 is a communication cable that is made by Allen-Bradley. This cable supports the Data Highway Plus (DH+) protocol and may be used to enable communication between a PCMCIA card and a computer. The length of this communications cable is 3.16 meters (10.4 feet). The length of the cable between the PCMK card and the pod is approximately 17.8 centimeters (7 inches), and the length of the communication cable is 2.8 meters (9.2 feet) between the pod and the processor. The manufacturer recommends that the total cable length should not exceed 10 meters (32.81 feet). The PCM5/B Cable assembly is required in order to connect to processors in the PLC-3 Series, processors in the PLC-5 series, and the Classic Processor series PLC-5/250. If the CP7 adapter is also used, the 1784-PCM5/B cable can also be used to connect to SLC 5/04 Processors and PLC-5 Enhanced Processors, ControlNet PLC-5 Family Processors, ControlLogix 1756-DHRIO module, and other DH+ devices. This cable includes the 1784-CP7 adapter and also comes with two wedges that are used to attach the cable to the computer. Using the 1784-PCM5 cable, the 1784-PCMK/B card can connect to processors in the PLC-2, PLC-3, and PLC-5 series. This cable does not include a loopback connector therefore, a loopback diagnostic test requires the 1784-PCMK card to be connected in order to conduct a valid test. The cable should not be connected to a DH+ link while it is being tested in order to ensure the test does not fail and there is no excess signal noise in the connection.
