The 1785-BEM is a programmable logic-controller backup communication module by Allen-Bradley, also known as the expansion module. On the 1771 I/O chassis, this module is placed in a single input and output slot. The primary function of this controller device is to allow maximum communication between the CPUs of two coupled programmable logic controllers. In particular, it is suitable for use with the PLC version 5. Aside from that, this expansion module can intelligently make a copy of the user data to prevent data loss in the case of a system malfunction. The voltage range of this module is 5 VDC at 0.6 amperes. In addition, this module can enable PLC 5 processors with 32-bit input capabilities on the processors' database. Also, it comes with a switch mechanism of four switches placed in different positions. Additionally, this module requires four maximum modules per system and does not need any external power source for the operation. As far as the build material of this module is concerned, it comes in a conformal coat. However, users should always follow the instructions by the manufacturers while configuring this expansion device, and its installation and repair should always be conducted by trained personnel to avoid any damage to the device or the personnel at the workplace. The current status of this module is obsolete by the manufactures. However, it can still replace the previous modules or wherever it might be needed.
