The SMC Flex controller 150-F108NBD provides starting modes including soft start, current limit and dual ramp start; each with selectable kickstart as well as full voltage start, preset slow speed and linear speed acceleration with selectable kickstart, and soft stop. In addition, the solid state controller also provides expanded protection, metering, I/O and communication ability. The soft start mode is the most common use of the controller where initial torque is set by user from 0 to 90% of locked rotor torque and acceleration ramp time is set between 0 and 30 seconds. The selectable kickstart feature is used to get a boost at startup to overcome the high torque required. This can be selected from 0 to 90% of locked rotor torque and for duration of 0 to 2 seconds. The current limit start can set the current limit level to 50% to 600% of the motor full load ampere and current time limit to 0 to 30 seconds.
The dual ramp start mode lets user select between two start up profiles that have preset ramp times and initial torques. A full voltage starting mode allows motor to reach full voltage within 0.25 seconds. Soft stop feature is used when longer than standard stopping time is required for the driven equipment. The user can select up to 120 seconds of increase in voltage ramp-down rate. One DPI is provided to allow interfacing and communication modules. The unit has a front keypad and backlit LCD display. The status indications includes Starting, Stopped, Stopping, at speed, alarm, and fault.

In the event that a fault needs to be cleared, just hold the "escape" key for three (3) seconds. The enclosure of this device must maintain an internal temperature range of zero (0) to fifty (50) degrees Celsius. Additionally, the device should be installed with at least a fifteen (15) centimeter clearance, both above and below, the device to allow airflow through its heatsink.
When storing this device for any reason, be cautious that an ambient temperature must be maintained within a range of -20 to +75 °C, or -4 to +167 °F. There must also be a non-condensing relative humidity range of 0% to 95% in the storage area. Be aware to store the device in an area that is dry and clean, as well as not exposed to a corrosive atmosphere.
