The Ethernet PLC-5 programmable controller 1785-L20E is a very useful component with its sixteen thousand word memory and 512 I/O points. The unit has a total of thirteen I/O chassis with up to twelve remote. The programmable controller has power dissipation of 19 watts and backplane current load of 3.6 Amperes. The module consists of Ethernet communication port (RJ45 connector) with Ethernet status indicator and two Ethernet transmit indicators for 100 M and 10 M communication rates. It also has an eight pin Mini-DIN, DH+ programming terminal connection, DH+ communication port, and remote I/O scanner communication port. There are two status indicator LEDs (green or red) for the two ports. The channel with 25-pin D-shell serial port supports standard CEIA RS-232C and RS-423, and is also compatible with RS-422A.

This port can be used with ASCII or DF1 full-duplex, half-duplex master, and half-duplex slave protocols. The default configuration of the port is compatible with DF1 point-to-point, one stop-bit, 2400 bps and BCC error check. It does not support parity or handshaking. There is a key-switch to select controller mode - PROG, REM, or RUN. There are also indicator lights for battery, controller RUN/FAULT, and Force. The controller has a 1770-XYC Lithium-ion battery with 0.65 grams of lithium. The battery life is one year at 25°C or 84 days at 60°C at 100% power and 1.2 years or 150 days at respective temperatures at 50% power. After the LED lights show low battery, the battery needs to be changed within 30 or 5 days for the respective temperatures.
